A Few Words About Us
The Reapers moved to the Loanfoot Farm, Fife in 1983. John started pig keeping with two Gloucester Old Spot sows. He moved on to Large White Cross Landrace pigs. The Reapers have decided to return to farming the older breeds, and both Father and Son are very committed to rearing the rare breeds.
Steven currently holds the position of Secretary of the Fife & Kinross District Association of Young Farmers Clubs. He also held the position of Chairman of The East Fife Junior Agricultural Club.
Lucklaw Free Range have decided to rear our pigs out doors and therefore chose these traditional rare breeds. They are very self sufficient, adapted to outdoor life and far less susceptible to health problems than the modern commercial hybrids. These types of pigs are slower growing and fatter at the finish. As a result they have an outstanding flavour, retain more moisture and taste truly delicious!
The pigs main feed consists of barley, wheat and oilseed rape. The pigs diet is supplemented with our apples, potatoes, carrots and other vegetables from the farm in Fife. Lucky pigs!
Lucklaw Free Range does not use any growth hormones, or antibiotics as a preventative measure. These animals are naturally healthy and happy. All of the animals are kept free range. The pigs, sheep, cows, turkeys and the geese are all kept outside on lush green Fife grass. They are free to roam and are able to display natural behaviour.
Lucklaw Free Range are proud to rear these animals and have a genuine affection for them. The pigs are friendly, sociable and affectionate animals, who enjoy company. They are a joy to look after and always keep us on our toes.
